Weddings, Memorial Services, Baptisms

Per the policy set forth by the Board of Deacons, we are pleased to perform weddings for Church members and members of their families.

Before finalizing your wedding date, please call the Church office to make sure the church is available and that one of the ministers will be available to officiate at your wedding. If you want a specific minister to officiate at your wedding, please indicate this when you call. Depending on the month you are getting married, that minister may or may not be available. A date is only confirmed once the church has received a $150 deposit.

Our ministers require three premarital conferences with the prospective bride and groom in order to prepare for the wedding. Please telephone the minister who is officiating at your wedding to make appointments for these important meetings.

For more information about having your wedding at The Congregational Church of New Canaan, please see our Wedding Policy.

The Sacrament of Baptism in the Congregational Church of New Canaan requires the presence of the congregation and is usually reserved for members of our church. Our members firmly believe that the Sacrament of Baptism creates a covenant between the congregation and the baptized child. If the health of the child or other circumstances do not allow for baptism in front of the congregation, the ministers and Board of Deacons will consider exceptions to this policy.

Baptisms are typically performed on the last Sunday of each month, and up to three baptisms are allowed per service. If you would like a specific minister to perform the baptism, please indicate this when you call. Depending on the month, that minister may or may not be available.

Our ministers require one meeting with the child’s parents in order to prepare for the baptism. Please telephone the minister who is officiating to make an appointment for this important conversation.

No fees are charged for baptisms, but contributions may be made to the Church and given to children’s needs in our Church.

For more information or to schedule a baptism for your child, please contact Anne in the church office at (203)966-2651 x36 or at

Funerals, Memorial Services and Interment

The ministers and staff have a sincere desire to ease the pain and stress associated with making arrangements for a memorial service or funeral.

Members of the Church are encouraged to discuss their wishes and make them clearly known to their family. Ministers are available to provide advice and counsel to members and their families at any mutually agreeable time.

Interment in the Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden was designed to provide a special place for prayer and meditation, worship services, weddings and baptisms and for interring the ashes of our beloved dead.

Past and present members of The Congregational Church of New Canaan and their immediate families (i.e. their parents and their children) are eligible for interment. Ashes will be placed in the garden proper. No container may be used. No marker is permitted except for the standard granite marker, the cost of which will be borne by the family or estate of the deceased. The granite marker should be created according to guidelines available in the church office.
