Boards, Committees, and Ministry Teams

Text from the Church’s 1787 Covenant

The Congregational Church of New Canaan is entirely self-governed. Church Officers, Deacons, Trustees and members of Standing Committees are elected by the congregation at our Annual Meeting. A twelve-member Board of Deacons, together with the Senior Minister, leads the spiritual life of the church. Business affairs are managed by a twelve-member Board of Trustees. Standing Committees include: Nominating and Governance, Leadership, Investment, Personnel, and Missions and Social Action. Ministry Teams, made up of Church member volunteers, support our ministers and program staff as needed.

Ministry Teams

Ministry Teams are the place where inspiration becomes reality, and God’s kingdom is lived out on earth through our collective faith journeys. They offer a way for members of The Congregational Church of New Canaan to work together to advance our vision, which is to support each member’s journey of transformation by providing meaningful opportunities for enrichment through:

  • Spiritual Experience in worship, music, prayer, and meditation groups, retreats, and other means of grace;
  • Christian Formation for all ages through Bible Study, Church School classes, and small groups;
  • Love of Neighbor through caring ministries to fellow parishioners in need, as well as local service projects, mission trips, and provision for the needs of God’s children around the world.

Members are encouraged to seek out and join the team or teams that are most relevant to them and their own spiritual journey. They may move in and out of teams as their time and interests dictate and they will labor alongside like-minded individuals on the actual ministry work of the church.
