Local Opportunities

Open Door Shelter lunches happen on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Congregation members can meet at the church at 11:15am to carpool to the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk (4 Merritt Street) or just meet the group there by noon to help prepare and serve lunch to the homeless and working poor. For more information, please contact Bob Druckenmiller, or the Church Office.

Pacific House Shelter dinners usually happen the third Thursday of the month during the program year. There is a need for volunteers from the church to prepare food ahead of time and drop it off at the church, as well as for volunteers to meet at the church to carpool to Pacific House in Stamford (597 Pacific Street) and serve dinner to homeless men. For more information, including dates and food items needed, please contact Linda Twombly at (203)966-4013, or the Church Office.

Give a Meal a Month is an ongoing food drive that alternately benefits the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk and the New Canaan Food Pantry.  Each month there will be a menu posted around the church, in the newsletter, in our service bulletins, and in our All-Church E-mails; simply purchase what you are able from the list when you do your weekly shopping and bring it back to the church by the end of the month. Please contact the Church Office with questions.

Meals on Wheels is an ongoing program that delivers meals directly to the homes of seniors. We are short volunteers for our church’s commitment to Meals on Wheels. This work involves picking up the prepackaged food from Waveny Care Center at 10:45am weekly on Thursdays. If you are available to help deliver meals on Thursdays, please contact Liz Mallozzi, (203)966-3505 or Lizzymay1937@aol.com.

Throughout the year there are additional service opportunities that are safe and meaningful for all ages. The projects vary from month to month and include the All-Church Clean Up, Bell-Ringing for Salvation Army, our annual Turkey Day Project, Homefront Day, serving a meal at Lapham Community Center, and assisting our various partner organizations.
